Architecture & Poetic Short Films
Walkie Talkie via the Open Window
Curated by Adriaan de la Rey (Open Window FILM ARTS) and Jaco van der Merwe (Walkie Talkie)
Walkie Talkie is a group of bilingual South African spoken word poets and writers. The founding members are Jaco van der Merwe (Bittereinder), Toast Coetzer (The Buckfever Underground) and HemelBesem. They have recently been joined by Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar/Die Heuwels Fantasties), Henry Cloete (Die Skynmaagde) and Jacques Smit (MouthOfWolf). Walkie Talkie exists to write and speak about current events in South Africa and the world and transmit their findings back into the collective airwaves.
For this project “Walkie Talkie through the Open Window – architectural spoken word films”, the Walkie Talkie members have collaborated with Open Window student filmmakers to produce a series of short films based on the theme of “BLY” ( which translates to “stay” or “to be happy”).
