Surreal Cinema: Buñuel/Dali
Director: Luis Bunuel, Feature Film, 65 min, France, 1930
L’Age D’Or, Bunuel’s first feature, has more of a plot than his Un Chien Andalou (1929) but still follows pure Surrealist traditions. It tells the surreal tale of a man and a woman who are passionately in love. Their attempts to consummate their passion, however, are constantly thwarted by their families, the Church, and bourgeois society.
The most scandalous of all Bunuel’s films. Surreal, dreamlike and deliberately pornographically blasphemous.
